about

A special solstice tale about a creature from Algonquian folklore: The Wendigo.

lyrics

The native people of this area used to tell a winter story to their kids. Though it was less of a story and more of a warning.
It’s the story of the Wendigo. Wendigo was a man, a greedy and evil man. Over a long and cruel winter he starved to death in a forest near here.
His soul became an evil creature, with the body of a starving man, the claws of a bear, the head of a wolf, and the antlers and legs of a deer.

The Wendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tightly over its bones. As its bones pushing nearly through its skin.
its complexion the ash-gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Wendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave.
What lips it had were tattered and bloody [....] Unclean and suffering from suppurations of the flesh, the Wendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption.

He was cursed to roam the empty spaces near the village, and he’s cursed to always be hungry.
He would snatch children from the village and eat them! He could inhabit the bodies of weak men, and drive them crazy, turning them into Wendigos too.
In these cold, dark days near the solstice he would become brave, driven by his hunger he would come into towns and villages just like this one where we live.
Peeping into windows as we sleep, watching us, wanting to devour us. Closer and closer he creeps, maybe he’s even outside right now!

Nothing can stop him. An evil spirit can not be killed with bullets, and no magic is strong enough to stop him once he finds what he’s looking for.
Some people say he’s not real, some people say he is. I’ve seen him. Lurking in the shadows, creeping door to door in the night,
Looking for something to stop his hunger.
Looking for something to stop his hunger.
Looking for something to stop his hunger.
Looking for someone to stop his hunger.
